FAQ
What is permanent jewelry?
Custom fit jewelry that is hand welded and designed by you! It's welding together providing a clasp free piece of jewelry with a seamless finish. Classy and dainty for everyday wear.
Why do you call it Semi-Permanent when others call it Permanent Jewelry?
Permanent is defined as lasting or intended to last or remain unchanged indefinitely. This jewelry, while sustainable metals are used such as 14k gold filled and 925 sterling silver and welded together, it can be easily removed with scissors. This jewelry can also be changed, resized, redesigned, etc. We call it semi-permanent because it's permanent for as long as your lifestyle wants or permits!
What is Sterling Silver?
Sterling Silver is an alloy of Silver, containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other metals. Sterling Silver is harder than pure silver and more suitable for jewelry and everyday wear. In fact, wearing Sterling Silver everyday (like with semi-permanent) prevents buildup of tarnish and dust on the metal. 925 Sterling Silver is also best for sensitive skin.
What is Gold Filled?
To be considered Gold Filled, the gold layer must be at least 5% of the total weight. L+B uses 14k Gold Filled, which means 14k gold is bonded to a base metal, such as brass. From a quality standpoint, Gold Filled is second in line from solid gold, and because of its strength being mixed with other metals Gold Filled is a great choice for semi-permanent jewelry.
Can I get a clasp with my jewelry?
Yes! If you do not want the jewelry to be welded on and semi-permanent, you can absolutely get a clasp added to any piece.
Can I look at the spark when the weld happens?
Your safety is most important. We ask that you do not look directly at the spark to protect your eyes. We have a pair of Shade 5 glasses that you can wear or you can watch the weld through your phone camera.
How can I get semi-permanent Jewelry from Sycamore Lee?
You can schedule an appointment at our studio (SL Studio) located in Mt. Pleasant through our booking page or visit our Instagram or Facebook Pages to see our monthly calendar of pop-ups. You can also book a private party!
How old do you have to be?
Link+Bonded does not recommend welding on children under the age of 12; however, the parent has the right to override our recommendation. Consent waivers must be completed for that child.
With that being said, if a child is under the age of 5, Link+Bonded will not weld a jump ring closed. The jump ring will close, keeping it clasp-less, but it will not be welded.
The pricing for children 12 and under includes a clasp.
My chain broke - what do I do?
All semi-permanent jewelry purchases come with a 60-day warranty. If something happens within 60 days of the purchase we will replace or fix the piece. After 60 days, Sycamore Lee (SLJ) offers complimentary re-welds for the life of the jewelry. If the chain breaks due to normal wear and tear, we can try and repair the chain at no cost, if it can’t be fixed or another purchase would need to be made as SLJ is not responsible.
Sycamore Lee will also not weld a necklace on a child age 12 or younger. The jump ring will close, keeping it clasp-less, but it will not be welded.
My semi-permanent jewelry stretched or has become too big, what do I do?
By normal body movement (wrist and ankles mainly) your jewelry may stretch, or if it’s caught and pulled the metal can stretch, if it doesn’t break. When you purchase semi-permanent jewelry from us, we will always adjust it for you when it comes to resizing your current piece. However, there are limitations to this. Reach out to us with any questions regarding resizing.
What if I want or need to remove my jewelry?
You have a couple of options!
You can either cut the jump ring (where the weld was completed) with scissors - keep the chain and we will re-weld it when you're ready or we will remove the chain at no cost for you. Once you are ready to have it put back on, we will re-weld at no cost or we can also add a clasp for a small fee.
